There are times in everyone’s life when they need a little extra help. And we all have different needs. Whether due to age, illness or injury, there is a sliding scale of care needs for people wishing to stay in their own homes, rather than go into hospitals or care homes.
When Jane Perry was looking for quality fortnightly home help for her grandmother, she struggled to find anything suitable. Recognising a gap in the market, she and her husband John contacted Bluebird Care, a national home care organisation that offered franchise opportunities. Speaking to the team at Bluebird Care, they discovered strong synergies and their new business venture was launched.
A new type of home care
Since 2008, Bluebird Care Edinburgh has offered care and support packages of the highest quality and has received numerous awards to prove it. They offer care visits that range from one hour right up to full live-in care. This type of care means people can remain living independently at home with all their cherished belongings and memories, which is important for individuals but also eases pressure on hospitals and care homes.
The dedicated Bluebird Care team offer specific services such as housekeeping, appointment making, shopping, help with pets, personal care, medication and other errands that make life easier for people at a time when they are struggling to cope.
Making a difference
While the wide range of services offered by Bluebird Care Edinburgh is what often attracts new customers to them, it’s the genuine, caring and friendly attitude of the ‘Bluebirds’ that keeps them coming back and recommending the service to friends and family.
The team are fully dedicated to making people’s lives easier, whether by providing essential care, helping with odd jobs or just sharing a cuppa and a chat. No two days are the same, and that’s just fine for them – as long as they’re making a positive difference to lives, the team are happy! When asked what makes the job worthwhile, Jane told us: “Seeing the smiles of our customers every day makes it worthwhile. This and enabling people to live their fullest lives in their later years just like my gran did.”
The Bluebird success story
Over the years, the Bluebird Care Edinburgh Team has grown and developed, amassing an impressive number of awards for their service, something they are incredibly proud of. As well as dedication to their customers, Jane emphasises how much they value their staff that deliver the care. They have big plans for the future that involve listening to the staff’s feedback to shape their development while ensuring they have a positive work-life balance and promoting employee wellbeing. It sounds like a great place to work!
Since launch, Bluebird Care have been actively involved in strategic groups like Scottish Care, the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS Lothian and the Edinburgh Care Forum to share information and shape home care for the future.

Bluebird Care are incredibly valued tenants here at Create Business Properties and we’re delighted that they are celebrating 15 years here this month! To think, 15 years ago it all began with a big launch celebration right here in Castlebrae Business Centre!
And the feeling is mutual. Asked about being part of the Create Business Community, Jane says: “We love being part of the Create Community and are appreciative of the support from them over the years. From office moves as we grew to the wider networking opportunities with other local businesses we don’t think we would have our roots anywhere else.”
