A social enterprise that reinvests and gives back to the community

Business, with purpose

At Create Business Properties, we believe that business should be a powerful force for good. As a proud social enterprise, we reinvest a percentage our profits directly back into the Craigmillar community – supporting local people, championing grassroots initiatives, and helping purpose-driven ideas flourish.

We’re not just about buildings – we’re about opportunities, connections, and a brighter future for everyone in our community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create a connected and collaborative business hub where entrepreneurs grow, partnerships thrive, and community impact is always at the centre of what we do.

Whether it’s supporting local start-ups, mentoring the next generation, or bringing together public and private partners, we’re driven by one goal: to create positive, long-term change for Craigmillar and beyond.

Investing in the Next Generation

We’re passionate about helping young people unlock their potential and build brighter futures. By opening our doors and sharing our networks, we offer:

  • Work placements for school leavers and students

  • Internships for local college and university learners

  • Mentoring programmes led by our tenants and partners

  • Showcase space for young creatives, entrepreneurs, and designers to share their work with the wider community

By supporting skills development, confidence-building and career pathways, we aim to inspire the next wave of local talent.

Growing Greener Together

We’re proud to work in partnership with organisations who share our values, including: Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust, Friends of Craigmillar and Edinburgh City Council

Together, we’ve supported a range of environmental and conservation projects that bring people together and improve the places we all share. These include:

  • Community litter picks led by local volunteers
  • Tree planting days to improve green spaces and boost biodiversity
  • Ongoing conservation efforts to maintain and enhance public areas
  • Educational activities to engage young people in environmental awareness

These are not just one-off efforts – they’re long-term collaborations, rooted in local pride and sustained by an incredible team of volunteers, many of whom are local residents and young people.

Scoping Future Projects

We’re always looking ahead – working with local groups, schools, charities, and businesses to identify and develop projects that will benefit the Craigmillar community.

Some of the ideas currently in development include:

  • Community garden spaces for learning, growing and wellbeing
  • Youth enterprise workshops that support confidence and entrepreneurial thinking
  • Shared creative spaces for makers, artists, and social businesses
  • Sustainability initiatives that reduce waste and promote greener ways of working
