In today’s competitive job market, high school students need more than just academic knowledge. Practical work experience provides invaluable skills and insights that can set them apart. Hands-on learning allows students to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability.
At Create Business Properties, our longstanding partnership with Castlebrae High School has always been a source of pride. Recently, the school approached us about a pressing issue: a shortage of placements for students seeking work experience within the local community. We were thrilled to step up and offer our support.
Our business park boasts a diverse range of tenants, many of whom are eager to share their expertise with the next generation. For instance, one student will be gaining valuable experience at StorTera, a pioneering Scottish company leading the way in energy storage through innovative battery technology.
Other lucky Castlebrate students will also be spending time learning at other local businesses with Create Business Properties, including Conryn Coffee Grinders, SDK Banners, Greg’s Upholstery, and Craigmillar Pet Supplies.
Additionally, we’re excited to welcome students into our own offices at Create. They’ll have the opportunity to observe firsthand the day-to-day operations of a thriving business hub, from marketing and sales to administration and finance. Our goal is to provide them with a well-rounded experience that will equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their future careers.
By partnering with Castlebrae High School and our tenant businesses, we’re not only fulfilling a community responsibility but also investing in the future of our local workforce.”
We understand the importance of helping students to understand the realities of different types of jobs. Through internships, part-time jobs, or volunteering, students can gain exposure to different industries, explore potential career paths, and develop a strong work ethic. These experiences also help them build a professional network and develop essential soft skills like communication, teamwork, and time management.
Also, practical work experience can enhance students’ academic performance. By connecting classroom learning to real-world applications, they can develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter and become more motivated to succeed.
Castlebrae High School is still looking for other local businesses to take students for work experience internships this year – do you think you could offer a pupil a week of experience with your company? If so, please get in touch with lynn@createbusinessproperties.com
