As we approach Mother’s Day and we think about the amazing women who have cared for us, it’s a good opportunity to remind us of the need to make caring Visible, Valued and Supported. In the current climate, the work carried out by carers is more important and applaudable than ever.

Here at Create Business Properties, we wanted to take the chance to celebrate the outstanding care teams that we work with. In the Create business community, we are very proud to have six tenant businesses that work in the caring profession, offering a range of care services to people around Edinburgh.

As we recognise the brilliant work all these teams do in helping people live better lives every day, we wanted to take a look at each of them and the specialist services that they offer. Read on to learn more.

Bluebird Care

Bluebird Care Edinburgh has been delivering an excellent at-home care service to the people of Edinburgh since 2008, always leading with kindness and compassion. A national award-winning service, Bluebird Care Edinburgh along with Bluebird Care Glasgow South were awarded the accolade of Scottish Care at Home Provider of the year for 2017 and are consistently graded ‘excellent’ by The Care Inspectorate.

The dedicated team at Bluebird aim is to support their customers to maintain their independence and lifestyle by providing the highest quality of home care.

The service is run by a small team in the office (a manager, three supervisors and three care coordinators) and almost 70 brilliant care workers who work in the community. These people are the visible face of Bluebird Care and they don’t just deliver personal care, but they form bonds with customers and make them smile and laugh throughout their visit.

We love the fact that when asked what great care looks like, the team at Bluebird apply “THE MUM TEST” in their actions and decisions because they say “If it isn’t good enough for our mum, it isn’t good enough for yours.”

Monteith Personal Care Management

Monteith Personal Care is a care at home-providing service and was established in December 2016.

The Care Director Karen Lacey began Monteith after gaining a wealth of care experience working initially as a care worker, then as a care manager for the largest care-providing company in Edinburgh.  Karen believed that all people who need care deserve the highest quality of care whether they can afford it or not.  Monteith was created to care for all at the highest standard regardless of their backgrounds.  Karen also strives for Monteith to be the most supportive company towards her carers.  Respecting them all for their differences. Supporting them within themselves as well as their work needs with compassion and dignity.

Since December 2016 Monteith has been based in Castlebrae Business Centre.  The centre has provided us with a fabulous friendly base.  Monteith has approximately 90 dynamic and enthusiastic staff who are always very busy. We like to welcome all into our environment.  The centre has a great vibe about it with all tenants working in their own diverse fields of expertise.

Monteith’s friendly well-qualified management team all began their care career out in the field, working their way up the ranks. Progression is of huge importance to Monteith.  Cindy O’Neill (Montheith’s Registered Care Manager) is a very approachable, understanding fair and focused “boss” who has supported the Monteith care team through the beast from the east, covid and now the social care crisis that we are still in today.  They have an incredibly friendly and caring team who would like to invite all who are interested in a career in care in the community a try.  No experience is needed as full induction training is given for all staff.

Home Instead

Home Instead Edinburgh East is part of a larger group of home care providers and is owned and run by local couple Andrew and Joanna Senew who provide care at home for older people in the Edinburgh area.

Andrew comments “My mother was fortunate to live independently, in the family home, into her old age.  Both of us recognise how important that was to her.  By stimulating and supporting each individual’s emotional as well as physical needs, we help our clients (and their families) realise the very human desire to retain independence and maintain a good quality of life; all in familiar surroundings.”

Joanna continues “The distinct way we care for our at-home clients really is different to the way task-based domiciliary care agencies operate.  We match the experience and interests of our clients and caregivers, helping them to make an immediate connection.  We personally introduce our clients to their dedicated caregivers, who visit them each time.  And all our visits are for an hour or more, giving our caregivers the quality time they need to really make a difference.”

Their personalised homecare services include companionship – ranging from stimulating mental awareness, accompanying clients to appointments and help with reading; home help – covering all aspects of day-to-day housework, shopping and meal preparation; plus personal care – including assistance with bathing and dressing, convalescence care and medication reminders.
